Week of Action in Keyworth
12-19 July 2009
A Week of Action takes place in Keyworth during 12-19 July. The Week kicks off at the Keyworth Show on 11 July, where there will be police, council staff and partners keen to address local crime concerns and anti-social behaviour.
Organised by the South Notts Community Safety Partnership, the Week sees a number of organisations such as councils, police and fire service targetting an area, to help cut crime.
Activities throughout the Week include:
- More visible police, council staff and councillors at key times throughout the Week - all of whom will talk to residents about local issues.
- Advice on home security, bike safety and preventing car crime.
- School visits - the fire service and road safety team will deliver road safety education to primary schools and South Wolds Community School.
- Lots of activities for children and young people taking place at Keyworth Leisure Centre such as Teen Fit, Aquazone swimming lessons and Fun 'n' Fitness.
- Spirita - the social housing experts - will be offering advice on issues of anti-social behaviour.
- A domestic violence exhibition throughout the Week in Keyworth library.
- Council staff will make sure streets are clean, graffiti are removed, street lights work, pot-holes are filled and weeds are sprayed.
- Dog patrols will be rounding up strays and advising dog owners to clean up dog mess.
- Trading standards will be doing spot checks on retailers to make sure that they are operating legally.
- Council staff will be checking public buildings, pubs and clubs to make sure standards are being maintained.
- Drugs and alcohol services will be offering help and advice.
- DVLA staff will be seeking out untaxed cars.
- Council tax inspectors will be visiting properties within the area.
The Week of Action is not a one-off way of cutting crime - it is the start of focusing on the area. Future actions include projects in school to tackle bullying and personal safety, developing areas for young people to hang out after school and during school holidays, and a programme of youth activities during the summer.
