Most readers will be aware of the shocking robbery at Keyworth Post Office on 9 January, when a heavy industrial fork-lift truck was used to push a car out of the way, demolish much of the front wall of the Post Office and then remove the cash machine intact. This crime will appear in next month's figures. Luckily no-one was hurt, but it has left the community traumatised and wondering whether we are safe here any more. The Post Office is now mostly rebuilt and operating as normal. A cash machine will be re-installed as soon as possible, and anti-ram bollards will be placed on the pavement, as they have had to be done next to several other shops in Keyworth.
The Post Office raid comes soon after the armed robbery at Martins newsagents in the Square, just round the corner from the Post Office. Looking through the monthly report at the lesser crimes, there seems to be a disturbing trend for burglars to break windows of homes or cars. At one time they wouldn't do anything that made a noise - now they are contemptuous of anything that gets in their way.
The next Local Area Group meeting of the police with councillors and members of the public will be at Keyworth Police Station at 10.00 on Wednesday 18 February. You are all welcome to attend and tell the police about your concerns.
