I would like to wish all readers a happy and peaceful Christmas and a successful New Year. At a time of so much discord, poverty and unhappiness throughout the world, I hope that the human spirit will triumph and that peace and comfort will eventually find their way to Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and everywhere else in the worldwide alphabet.
Closer to home, would Rushcliffe residents please note that the Borough Council's Civic Centre is closed on 25-26 December and 1-2 January. Unfortunately there is no rest for the wicked, and I shall be accessible at all reasonable times - just mail me if necessary.
You are welcome to come and take part in the open-air carol service in the Square in Keyworth at 10.00 am on Christmas Eve.
If you have a natural Christmas tree, please take sensible precautions against fire. At the end of the festive period, you can chop the tree up and put it in your green wheelie-bin for when normal bin collections resume during the week beginning 12 January.
