Council supports permits for tipping
Rushcliffe is backing Nottinghamshire County Council's new permit system to ensure that van drivers dispose of their waste legally at Notts tips. The new system will also reduce fly-tipping.
Notts County Council is introducing the permit system for any Notts residents who want to take their waste to their local tip using a van, trailer or pick-up. This is great news for Rushcliffe residents who are carrying out minor home improvements and want to get rid of rubble, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom fittings etc. and who don't need a skip.
Although DIY waste is not classed as household waste, and the Council is not obliged to pay for its disposal, Notts County Council found that residents were frustrated with the current system as they didn't see a real difference between the two kinds of waste. The permits, which will only be issued to Notts residents, will help to stop waste being brought into the county from neighbouring counties, and will also help reduce fly-tipping.
The new long-term permits won't be issued to trade operators and the tips won't accept any commercial waste. Construction and demolition waste will be limited to a set number of items per visit. To stop traders abusing the system, it is anticipated that CCTV, potentially using automatic number plate recognition, will be used.
