Thermal imaging pilot scheme
in Keyworth
During the week beginning 24 November 2008, a thermal imaging pilot scheme will be undertaken in Keyworth. This is part of Rushcliffe Borough Council's affordable warmth strategy and aims to identify those properties that would benefit from improved insulation, particularly cavity wall insulation. The scheme will offer free insulation to householders aged over 70 and subsidised insulation for other householders.
The cost of the insulation works will be funded by the energy companies, and the scheme will be administered by the Mark Group in conjunction with the Council.
The thermal imaging will actually be done by means of a van driving around Keyworth and pointing its thermal sensors at houses.
Approximately 35% of heat is lost through uninsulated cavity walls, so the scheme has the potential to reduce energy bills quite significantly, together with an associated reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
After the survey, a letter will be sent to selected householders, offering help and advice on improving their insulation. Data from the survey will be kept confidential, and the police are being informed of the project.
If the pilot proves to be successful, the scheme should be rolled-out across the rest of Rushcliffe in 2009.
