Keyworth in Bloom success

Following the recent entry in the regional Village in Bloom competition, the Keyworth bid (led by parish councillor David Roos) was awarded a bronze medal. This was the first time that Keyworth had entered, and it reflects extremely well on David and on the many local people who helped with the bid. Indeed, our village was only two points short of a silver medal.

The judges were especially impressed with:

- Floral displays at village gateways and on business premises
- Tree and shrub plantings in front gardens and around the village
- The Nature Reserve (misleadingly described by the judges as embryonic! it opened in 1985)
- The new composting toilet at the allotments
- The noise-reduced bottle banks
- A good clean street-scene generally
- Good local publicity and motivation of the local community
