Number plate theft is growing

I have received the following message from Ringmaster:

There has been an increase in number plate theft across South Nottinghamshire. Number plates are stolen to be used on similar-looking vehicles that are being used in criminal activity. You may then start receiving parking fines or speeding tickets, or be part of an investigation into fuel theft or more serious crime.  It can be difficult to prove your innocence in relation to these matters. The advice from Nottinghamshire Police is:

- Park your car in a secure garage where possible.
- Use public car parks that are 'Park Mark' accredited.
- Park in well-lit areas that can easily be observed by others.

If a number plate theft occurs, report it immediately to Nottinghamshire Police on 0115 967 0999.

You may wish to purchase number plates from "SecurePlate" who are a "Sold Secure" approved company.  They produce plates that are not able to be removed within 3 minutes (the Government standard for anti-theft plates) and which break up, meaning they cannot be used on a different vehicle.  For more details visit www.secureplate.com.

If you know people involved in vehicle crime
, please let the police know by calling 0115 967 0999, or report anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
