Nuisance bikers to be tackled

A summer-long police operation (called "Operation Altimeter") will tackle nuisance bikers in Rushcliffe. Since the start of January 2008, more than 90 incidents of nuisance vehicles have been reported to the police. The majority of these calls relate to the use of scooters and scrambler bikes by youths in and around the Cotgrave and Bingham areas.

Many of the bikes involved are unlicensed and unroadworthy, and are being ridden at speed along paths and bridle paths, with obvious dangers involved.

The operation will start at the beginning of June and will run during the evenings a
nd weekends until the end of September. It will involve high-visibility patrols in the area, both on foot and on mountain bikes. The operation will be supported by the off-road bike team at various times throughout the summer.

The police will deal with offenders in a fair but firm manner, and will issue warnings under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act and fixed penalty notices where appropriate.
