Glass recycling latest
- including assisted collections

As part of Rushcliffe Borough Council's latest plans to improve glass recycling, "quieter" glass banks are being introduced, and the Council is also trialling more local glass collections schemes ("micro sites") in Bingham, East Bridgford, Shelford and Cropwell Bishop. As part of this trial in the four villages, there will be kerbside collection of glass for people who have assisted collections. This will help people to recycle glass at home, rather than having to make unnecessary journeys to recycling sites.

Plastic recycling boxes will soon be delivered to homes which are on assisted collections, and these should be used to recycle glass bottles and jars. An accompanying letter explains the process - when the box is nearly full, residents should contact the customer service team on 0115 981 9911 and they will arrange for staff to come out and empty the box. There is no need for residents to put the box out at the end of the drive, but staff will need access to it.

The box is to be used for glass bottles and jars only. The Council can't take any other types of glass (such as window glass). The collection team will ensure that, when emptied, the box is put back in a convenient place, or where residents have specified. As this is a trial, the Council will be carrying out regular reviews of how the service is operating and will be asking for residents' opinions as the trial progresses.
