Selby Lane flats delay
My earlier page dated 18/12/07 informed readers that planning permission had been granted for 48 flats for elderly people in Selby Lane. This followed the appeal to the Planning Inspectorate after Rushcliffe Borough Council had refused permission.
Because of the delay in permission being given, the Borough Council withdrew its subsidy to the project and allocated all the subsidy to the Debdale Lane development of affordable family housing. This was justified by saying that the two projects were always intended to proceed together and that any delays in one project could not be allowed to affect the other.
Consequently there will be only 14 "affordable" units (i.e. for rent) in the Selby Lane scheme instead of the previously intended 19.
However, there has recently been a drop in the housing market. This has (coincidentally?) come during a period of silence from William Davis, the prospective developers of the Selby Lane site. The project must now be in some doubt., though the planning permission is valid for 3 years.
Meanwhile, Wright's Garage is continuing to trade, but under new management.
