Blind Lane flats development
to go ahead
Planning permission has been given for the building of four 2-bedroomed apartments in two 2-storey blocks on the corner of Blind Lane, Keyworth. The blocks will be situated on the corner of Blind Lane, opposite the police station just off The Square in the centre of the village, and they will be accessed by a narrow road leading up from the side of Blind Lane. The development site will be excavated to bring it down to the existing level of Blind Lane, by removing about 2 metres of earth.
This is a difficult and important site which has been semi-derelict for a very long time. As it is part of the Keyworth Conservation Area, any development would have to be sympathetic to the mixture of old and modern buildings in the village centre. I feel that this proposal has done just enough to make it consistent with the village scene which exists at present - the number of flats has been reduced from 9 and then 6 to 4 after repeated attempts to gain planning permission, and the ground level has been lowered to minimise the danger of overlooking nearby properties.
The old blue lias limestone wall (clearly shown at the front of the photo) will have to be recovered and rebuilt, as it is considered to be an important feature of the Conservation Area.
