Keyworth Youth Centre in Church Drive (between the Leisure Centre and the Library) is run by Nottinghamshire County Council for the benefit of local youngsters who want a place to meet, talk and take part in activities. It is run by a County Council youth worker and is currently open for just two evenings a week - Tuesdays and Thursdays.
It seems a shame that such a potentially valuable resource is being wasted by being open for only 2 evenings out of 7. A suggestion has been made that the club could also be opened on Friday evenings. However, the County Council does not have the resources for this. Instead, it would be possible for any competent individual or group or organisation to rent the club for £21 per evening and to provide a drop-in centre (providing any approved activities) for local youngsters.
Anyone organising Friday sessions would have to be approved by the County Council and be CRB checked (for criminal records, in view of the contact with young people). Finance should not be a problem - local councillors have offered to chip in with money from the Community Support Scheme.
If you have an ambition to run a youth club and are keen to work with young people, this could be for you!
You don't even have to look for premises - they are already available. All you have to do (as a minimum) is to make a commitment, turn up every Friday and run the place competently. You would also need to organise a rota of volunteers, so that at least 2 adults (preferably 1 female and 1 male) are supervising the club at any one time.
