People often ask what are the rules about fireworks.  The law states that it is not permissible to let off fireworks after 11.00pm at night up until 7.00am the next day, except on certain days. These days are:

5 November - fireworks are permitted until midnight
Chinese New Year, Diwali and New Year
's Eve - fireworks are permitted until 1.00am the next day

The penalties for this offence are imprisonment (maximum 6 months) and a substantial fine (£5,000).

It is illegal to sell fireworks to under-18s.

It is illegal for under-18s to have adult fireworks in a public place.


The maximum permitted loudness of a firework is 120 decibels.
