Leisure centres to be reviewed again

At the meeting of Rushcliffe Borough Council on 20 September, it was announced that the review of the number and locations of leisure centres would be re-considered. This was in response to the likely increase of the borough's population as a result of the Local Development Framework. (It seems that the council has accepted that a big increase in housing development is inevitable.)

Up to now, the long-term vision for leisure in Rushcliffe has provided for 3 large leisure centres situated in the west, centre and east of the borough. 3 of the existing centres were slated to be closed, and a big question-mark hung over the future of Keyworth LC in particular, as it is the smallest and least viable of the existing centres.

This re-opening of the review is a great achievement for the Friends of Keyworth Leisure Centre, who have campaigned long and hard to bring the future of KLC to public attention and keep it there. Let us hope that they will be rewarded with eventual success in keeping our centre open indefinitely.

Please contact Ian Machan on 0115 937 5407 or friendsof.klc@googlemail.com if you want further information or would like to support the campaign by the Friends.
