Cleaning up the Parade
The Parade is a run-down row of shops on Wolds Drive in Keyworth, opposite the Budgens store. The shops are owned by an absentee landlord, and the shops (together with the garages and the area to the rear of the shops) have fallen into a poor state of repair and appearance.
The Borough Council's Environmental Health department have used their powers against the landlord and have been making progress in improving the rear area of the shops. Following a recent big clear-up, a monthly clear-up will now be undertaken to deal with any litter, rubbish etc. In the meantime, the Council has also made progress in the demolition of the redundant and derelict garages, though it is heavy going, as they are having to go through some rather complex legal issues. However, the signs are now that the landlord may take the action themselves informally, without the need to serve a notice following the Council's 'encouragement'.
