Travel Plan Action Day

This rather lengthy title refers to a short period of highly visible action by the volunteers who had helped to put together the school's travel plan, which is designed to encouraged more children to walk to school and to discourage parents from unnecessary driving.

In the morning of 19 April, the volunteer team (with assistance from the local police) patrolled the road and pavements in the vicinity of the school, explaining the need for sensible parking and handing out "hedgehog cards" to the children. The exercise was very well received by both parents and children, and there was a marked decrease in the amount of unhelpful parking near the school. A letter from the police was given to children to take home.

There will be another "action day" at some unspecified time in the near future. Further measures will include the organising of one or more "walking buses" (supervised walking to school) and maybe a "park and stride" facility using the Village Hall car park which is only 2 minutes' walk from the school.
