Selby Lane flats plan
is rejected
Readers of the Rushcliffe Local News may have been surprised to read an article in the March issue, saying that the plan for two blocks of elderly people's flats in Selby Lane, Keyworth had been approved by the Borough Council.
This is not so. The plan was rejected by the Development Control Committee on 5 March, because of the over-bearing and over-intensive nature of the proposed development. It appears that a local resident sent the wrong press release to the Rushcliffe Local News too early, anticipating approval of the plan.
This rejection is now causing a headache for Rushcliffe Homes, the social landlord who had been pinning their hopes on this development as a means of meeting the demand for sheltered accommodation for old people. Urgent discussions are now going on with the architects and developers, to decide whether to appeal against the decision or to submit a revised plan.
The rejection was a good decision in planning terms, as it addressed the problems caused by the height, bulk and overpowering nature of the proposed new blocks. We must all hope that the developers come up with a more neighbour-friendly scheme soon.
