What you can put in the
blue bin
The blue wheelie-bins are now being extensively used by Rushcliffe residents for disposing of dry recyclables such as paper and plastic, and I have had numerous reports of bins being full or nearly full at the end of the fortnight, just before collection. However, there have also been numerous instances of "contamination" or the wrong stuff being put into the blue bins.
The main contaminants still being incorrectly placed in blue bins are:carrier bags
food trays
Tetra Pak waxed milk and juice cartons
Please avoid them! These items cannot be processed by the waste recipients, and they can lead to loads being rejected and material being sent to landfill or incineration. We want recycling rates to improve, not go down because of incorrect materials being supplied.
The blue bin is only to be used for:
- newspapers, magazines and catalogues
- cardboard and greeting cards
- cereal and egg boxes
- telephone directories
- writing paper and envelopes
- plastic milk and soft drink bottles
- plastic shampoo and conditioner bottles
- plastic household cleaning fluid bottles (bleach, washing liquid, etc.)
- yoghurt pots, margarine/ice-cream tubs
- drink cans and food tins
Thank you for your cooperation.
